8th International Symposium
07. Oktober 2013 - 10. Oktober 2013Hamburg
Since 1998 the TÜV NORD Akademie has organized several symposia on clearance of radioactive waste. At the Beginning of October the 8th International Symposium "Release of Radioactive Materials - Requirements for Exemption and Clearance" was arranged in Hamburg.
Nearly 140 international participants attended the event, which was opened by Dr. Dirk Stenkamp, Member of the Management Board of TÜV NORD AG. In organizing the event the TÜV NORD Akademie cooperated with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Nuclear Energy Agency of the OECD (NEA), the European Commission and the German-Swiss Association for Radiation Protection.
While visitors were able to participate in different excursions like the Nuclear Power Plant in Stade or Repository Asse II Mine on the first day, the further three days presentations were in focus. The speakers came for example from the UK, Argentina, Japan or Romania. The spectrum of presentations ranged from an overview of the statutory provisions at national and international level on long-term storage to acceptance by the population.
Briefly the European Council will adopt binding rules on the approval of the Member States. These are based on the previously published IAEA standards. The symposium gave an impression and an understanding of the proposed regulations that need to be implemented over the next four years in each national law. At the next International Symposium of Release from TÜV NORD this topic will be picked up again.
In addition to the presentations, the participants were able to inform themselves at an industrial exhibition and a poster presentation.
