Determine emissions from industrial facilities
The term emissions refers to the release of harmful substances (gases and particulate matter) from commercial and industrial facilities that can result in dangers to health for residents.
For example, these emissions can be released through identified sources (e.g. chimneys), surface sources (e.g. stockpiles or bio-filters) or diffused through windows, gates and leaks. To restrict emissions, the law (Federal Anti-Emissions Law (BImSchG) and Air Quality Control Administrative Regulations) includes specifications designed to extensively stop harmful emissions or to reduce them as much as possible to prevent air pollution and to protect people against emissions in places they constantly in (e.g. living and working rooms).
In the case of existing systems, these emissions can be measured as a pollutant concentration at a source in conjunction with the overall conditions such as exhaust air volume flow, temperature and source measurements.
Continue to individual emission measurements
Within the context of authorization procedures, we forecast pollutant emissions potentially arising from planned systems, evaluate these on the basis of specifications and draft the technical requirements for the systems or state-of-the-art emissions cleaning facilities.
Which methods do we use?
For identified sources, we generally use threshold values, e.g. Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control as the basis for forecasting the maximum permissible emissions
The basic data for determining diffused emissions are emission factors which outline which amount of pollutant is released per process.
If threshold values have not been defined, we also determine the emissions for non-defined sources with the help of emission factors, material balances or check whether existing measurements can be transferred to other systems.
Which services do we offer?
Frequently, determining the emissions is part of our appraisal for future air pollution (LINK to Emissions and air pollution control) . But we also draft independent appraisals on the technical

cleaning facilities. This topic also includes the following services:
- Determining the required chimney height (e.g. as per Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control)
- Drafting pollutant balances (input/output)
- Theoretical determination of diffused emissions using emission factors and threshold values, e.g. the Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control.
- Support with the emission report according to the 11th or 13th Federal Emissions Protection Act (E-PRTR)
