Vehicle interior tests
When developing new vehicles, new materials and material combinations are used in the interior as a result of new requirements. These materials have to satisfy criteria adapted to future users and are thus subjected to extensive tests. The assemblies and components of vehicles already on the road also have to be routinely inspected, such as:
- Instrument panel
- Seats (inside + cover)
- Roof lining
- Floor cover
- Side panels
- Hat rack
- Trunk lining
We conduct these types of tests, e.g. as an assembly or component, in testing chambers that have been specially set up for this purpose. Upon request, test facilities are developed and built for entire vehicles. In this field we are partner of the automotive and supply industry.
What characterizes us?
As a reliable partner in the automotive industry, TÜV NORD has inspected components and materials for the vehicle interior for many years.We have several testing chambers for diverse requirements. Thanks to our testing chamber (Weißer Elefant) measuring 1m3 we are able to perform inspections of large components according to GS 97014-2 (SHED Test).
Over the years we have gained a lot of experiences in the field of development and application of vehicle emission tests and material inspections. An experienced team made up of chemists, engineers and technicians conducts the chemical analysis and its evaluation in our very own Institute for Chemistry and Environmental Protection.We have the respective accreditation/certifications and regularly take part in intralaboratory tests to attest to our performance.
If necessary, we can involve experts from various disciplines from the TÜV NORD Group.

What standards and legal regulations form the basis of our work?
In addition to the familiar VDA and DIN procedures, tests are also carried out in accordance with the plant standards of well-known automotive manufacturers. Important testing requirements include, e.g.:
- VDA 270 Odour
- VDA 275 Formaldehyde
- VDA 277 VOC
- DIN 75201 Fogging
We actively participate in helping to structure new standards in the VDA and DIN.
