What tuning is all about...
Spoiler anyone? Fans decorate their treasured motors with special paint effects and wide rims and lower the suspension. And when the outside has been brought to perfection, attention turns to what is under the bonnet. The sky's the limit, as long as adaptations are permitted by road traffic law, in other words by the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO). Whether it's tuning, bodywork and mechanical modifications or add-ons – we want you to really love your driving, and to be really safe.
TUNE IT! SAFE! - The initiative for safe tuning
TÜV NORD Mobilität is right there!
The TUNE IT! SAFE! working group was established by the Federal Ministry of Transport, the Association of German Automobile Tuners (Verband Deutscher Automobil Tuner - VDAT) and the exhibition centre Messe Essen, organiser of the leading global tuning exhibition, the Essen Motor Show. TÜV NORD supports this initiative and has attended the Motor Show for many years as "Official Safety Partner".
But there are some "black sheep"
Respected tuning companies are built on the three pillars - "serious, safe, responsible". But not everyone fulfils these high standards. Low-quality, unsafe and often illegal products and cheap copies create a hazard on our roads. Young tuning fans, in particular, can succumb to the temptation presented by the black sheep of the industry. And accident statistics unfortunately reflect this. Reputable companies and the world of politics, industry federations and official bodies want to counteract this trend all over Germany with the Tune It! Safe! campaign.
