More than 15 per cent of positions certified as family-friendly
Hamburg/Hannover: TÜV NORD SysTec and TÜV NORD EnSys Hannover have now gained the "work and family" certificate. This certificate is granted by the Hertie foundation, which is a non profit-making organisation. Companies awarded the certificate have demonstrated that they operate a sustainable human resources policy which is family friendly - and five companies from TÜV NORD Group have now fulfilled the necessary requirements. This means that 15 per cent of employees from the whole group now enjoy the benefits of certification. As Dr. Guido Rettig, Group Executive Board Chairman, says: "These new certificates demonstrate that the TÜV NORD Group is an extremely attractive and family-friendly employer".
Today, measures include individual working hour agreements to help employees balance the needs of work and family, as well as the possibility of changing work locations within the group for family reasons.
The range of possible measures is divided into eight areas: they extend from arrangements related to working hours, work organisation and location through competent and family-friendly management, personal development and remuneration aspects and services for families. Measures must be implemented from all areas; however, the aim is not to find as many solutions as possible, but to find the most appropriate solutions and put them into practice. The solutions then take both the needs of the employees and the resources of the individual company into consideration. If the interests of both parties are considered in a balanced way, both sides benefit: according to a study commissioned by the "work and family" certification organisation, satisfaction and motivation increase in 85 per cent of cases, and the quality of employees' work improves in 70 per cent.
The "work and family" audit is an initiative of the Hertie foundation under the auspices of the Federal Minister for the Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and also the Minister for Economics and Technology. The Employers' Federation (BDA), the Federation of German Industries (BDI), the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) and the Confederation of Skilled Crafts (ZDH) all encourage their members to take part in the audit scheme, which is also funded by the European Union and the European Social Fund for Germany. The "work and family" audit is an important instrument and provides tailormade solutions for a better work-life balance - which in the end also brings financial benefits. Today there are already more than 600 audited companies, including 40 per cent of DAX-listed companies and 23 per cent of the Top 100 companies in Germany.
