Smoke alarm devices save lives – new seal of quality awarded for first time

More than 600 people lose their lives each year in Germany through fire. As a response to this, TÜV NORD CERT and the Kriwan Test Center have now developed a completely new seal of quality for smoke alarm devices. The test criteria extend far beyond the EU minimum requirements, with the main focus on reliability. A product from the company PX Technologies has now been awarded the "Certified Smoke Alarm Device" seal of quality.

Fires can break out when people are asleep in their homes at night. This is the most dangerous situation when it comes to fire and can quickly lead to catastrophe if no smoke Alarm device are installed. Normally, residents only have four minutes in which to escape, and even one lungful of toxic smoke can be fatal. Good smoke alarm devices save lives.

For a long time now, experts have been asking for all houses to be fitted with smoke alarm devices, where a loud warning tone sounds automatically when a certain smoke density is present.

Consumers can now recognise the smoke alarm device with the highest quality standard in Europe by means of the new TÜV NORD CERT seal of quality. The relevant tests were developed over the period of one year together with the Kriwan Test Center. The new quality label covers more than the standard European requirements (EN 14604; CE mark).

Covering three important aspects of quality, the emphasis is on battery life, the robust nature of the device and the smoke detector system itself (e.g. in order to avoid false alarms).

The label, which is unique in Europe, has now been awarded for the first time - to the PX-1 smoke alarm of the Berlin company PX Technologies.
