TÜV NORD SysTec tests wind conditions for REpower projects in Canada
TÜV NORD SysTec has analyzed wind conditions at future sites for wind turbines from the turbine manufacturer REpower, continuing the long-standing cooperation between the two companies. REpower has now signed a framework contract for the supply of wind turbines with a capacity of up to 954 MW, to be erected in the province of Quebec between 2011 and 2015. Following the Analysis, TÜV NORD SysTec was able to confirm fulfilment of international standard IEC 61400-1 at the planned turbine locations.
"The aim of this demanding project in the province of Quebec was to identify the specific wind conditions at the site and to evaluate them regarding to the international standard", says Stephanie Demant, wind energy expert at TÜV NORD SysTec.
First, TÜV NORD SysTec created a digital terrain model based on information regarding height and land use in the data at the site. The wind measuring masts at the site collecting data over several months to provide wind data reflecting the wind conditions at the site. Among other things, the focus was on mean annual wind speed, 50-year wind, effective turbulence, vertical flow inclination, complex terrain and climat conditions such as air density and temperature.
While the decisive factor analyzing wind conditions was to establish compliance with the international standard (IEC 61400-1 / IEC WT 01). After comparison with all site parameters, a statement of compliance was issued.
"Inspections and certifications at the wind energy sector have a permanent place within our range of services", Stephanie Demant continues. "That is why we are pleased that REpower has placed its trust in our long years of experience and competence - and we are also involved in other REpower projects".
TÜV NORD SysTec is exhibitor at Husum Windenergy 2010, from 21 to 25 September 2010 in Hall 2, Stand 2D12.
