TÜV NORD receives accreditation for new standard ISO 50001
Hanover: In April of this year, certification of energy management systems will be governed by a new, internationally unified standard, when ISO 50001 replaces European standard EN 16001. There is a one year transitional period for the changeover, and TÜV NORD is one of the first certification companies to be granted accreditation for the new standard. The ISO 50001 standard, acting alongside ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), is a further international keystone within integrated management systems.
Accreditation of TÜV NORD by the national accreditation body for the Federal Republic of Germany (DAkkS) provides an important foundation for the certification of energy management systems. Certification means that organisations not only increase their energy efficiency, but at the same time are provided with a starting point for integrated management processes which help to support positive and sustainable development.
The ISO 50001 standard enables organisations to develop the processes and systems that are necessary in order to reduce their own energy consumption and increase energy efficiency. Through simple integration into a certified quality and environmental management system, it is also possible to influence these processes and systems in a positive and sustainable way and utilise synergies in order to reduce costs.
"We very much welcome continuing internationalisation of management standards, and we are in a position to offer our clients superb complete solutions for the certification of their management systems all over the world. In future, the new ISO 50001 standard will stand for transparency, risk reduction and sustainable energy management", explains Ulf Theike, Managing Director of TÜV NORD CERT.
