Secure data for the energy networks of the future
Hanover: Increasing use of renewable energies means ever stricter requirements for secure data transfer and data protection. From 6 to 10 March, TÜViT will be presenting its services at the most important digital industry platform in the world, CeBIT in Hanover. Important topics will include the current state of technology for smart grids and smart metering, and solutions will be presented for providers, suppliers, prosumers and end consumers.
Smart grids will in future ensure energy supplies based on efficient and reliable operation of the energy network. In coming years, the number of smaller-scale and also privately-owned power plants will increase considerably. Solar panels on private houses, wind energy and biomass account for an ever greater proportion of total energy supply: this means that electricity generation is subject to large fluctuations due to variations in the weather. Smart grids are intended to compensate for this, and must be supported by the most modern information and communication technologies.
On the consumer side, smart meters will come into use. These will provide greater transparency regarding individual consumption and with it the opportunity to reduce energy costs.
“Traditional IT security concepts cannot be applied to smart grids”, says Antonius Sommer, Managing Director of TÜViT. “However, the legal basis for appropriate secure data transfer and data security is already in place, and technical implementation must now follow. We need reliable security profiles for smart metering systems, which among other things guarantee a transparent and secure invoicing system and protection of consumers’ personal and private sphere.”
TÜViT, a company of the TÜV NORD Group, is a world leader in this field. At CeBIT, TÜViT experts will also be providing information on suitable IT security requirements for companies and official bodies, and defence against possible cyber attacks on the Internet.
Further important themes:
- Data protection – technical and legal implementation of data protection rules
- Project Management Office – increases in efficiency through systematic project management
- Security in web applications – successfully avoiding cyber attacks.
You will find TÜV Informationstechnik (TÜViT) at CeBIT Security World from 6 to 10 March 2012 in Hannover in Hall 12, Stand B44/1.
