In the railway system, standards are an important basis for developing and operating safe and reliable infrastructures and vehicles. If these standards are not sufficient, special rules that are set up by approval authorities, operators or insurers must be adhered to.
These rules are not only technical in nature, but also organisational. They provide uniformity to products and activities in order to ensure interface compatibility and to ensure familiarity with handling the systems and components. For the majority of structural subsystems, the technical specification for interoperability (TSI) has already been drawn up.
