FSSC 22000 Version 5 - important change

{if|defined(lastname)| {switch:salut :male :Dear Mr. {lastname}, :female :Dear Ms. {lastname}, :default:Dear {firstname} {lastname}, } |else| Dear Sirs,}

the following content is provided to you to inform your local clients accordingly. Please use this version with corrected English terms and transfer it into your local means of communication and language.

The FSSC 22000 published version 5.1 in November 2020, which replaces version 5 of the standard. As of 01.04.2021, the new version 5.1 comes into force and must be applied mandatorily as of this date. Upgrade audits must be carried out by 31-03-2022.

The FSSC 22000 version 5.1 includes the new GFSI benchmarking requirements (2020.1).

The FSSC 22000 version 5.1 is based on the following standards/technical specifications:

  • ISO 22000 Requirements for organisations in the food chain.
  • Relevant prerequisite programs based on technical specifications.
  • FSSC 22000 additional requirements

The standard was essentially adapted in the area of the additional requirements, which are determined by FSSC 22000:

  • Management of services and purchased material
  • Product labelling
  • Storage and warehousing
  • Hazard control and measures for preventing cross-contamination
  • PRP verification
  • Product development
  • Health status of personell
  • Multisite certifications and central functions
  • Food Safety Culture (FSSC)

As a result of the added requirements, the audit times for FSSC 22000 version 5.1 have been increased. The minimum audit time for categories C, D, I and K is now always at least 2 days on site for each audit, regardless of whether it is an initial certification, recertification or surveillance audit.

The changeover to the new version 5.1 can take place during any audit. However, the prerequisite for the changeover is that an audit according to FSSC 22000 version 5 has already taken place. Only initial certification is exempt from this rule. Accordingly, the upgrade audit can also be carried out during an unannounced audit.

The clients certificate remains as it has already been issued, as FSSC 22000 does not provide for reissuance of the certificate.

To prepare for the changed requirements in FSSC 22000 version 5.1, FSSC provides documentation on the FSSC website.

Yours sincerely,

Your Food Germany and CDS team
