FSMA focuses on food contamination

The most recent data of the FDA centres for disease prevention and prevention document an alarming result. In the USA alone, approx. 48 million people per year come down with food poisoning; 128,000 of these are admitted to hospital, and 3,000 die. Here, at least the production-related causes are avoidable for the most part. Consequently, in 2011, the US already responded with measures, and initiated the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

This directive mainly addresses the prevention against contamination. These include preventive measures for human foodstuff as well as for animal feed of the respective livestock. The FSMA is supplemented by various requirements on international food suppliers and importers. All specifications are checked by so-called Preventive Controls Qualified Individuals (PCQIs).

Currently, the TÜV NORD CERT prepares intensively for an FSMA accreditation, which we want to offer our customers comprehensively this year. The respective PCQIs required by the FDA were already educated and trained accordingly.
