The acronym “URL” stands for “Uniform Resource Locator”. A URL is often understood in normal usage as the address of a website or a simple link, but this isn’t quite right. A URL localises and identifies a source – this can be a website, but it can also be a PDF document that is retrievable on the Internet. URLs are primarily used to direct users to websites.
