Shadow flicker forecasts

Creating individual solutions with shadow flicker forecasts

In addition to noise emissions, the results of shadow flicker analysis are increasingly becoming a limiting factor in the planning of wind farm projects. Our shadow flicker analyses allow for the development of the best individual solutions that meet current regulatory requirements.

The determination of shadow flicker duration includes calculating the astronomically possible shadowing times for relevant immission locations, possibly considering any existing pre-load, for the specified wind farm configuration. Additionally, the shadow flicker times are evaluated for their compliance according to the guidelines of the Federal/State Working Group on Immission Control (LAI). The calculations are performed using the WindPRO software with the implemented Shadow module.

Since modern shutdown systems in wind turbines operate based on radiation, we also offer our clients a calculation of the meteorologically probable shadow flicker in conjunction with an energy yield forecast. This allows for a more realistic depiction of expected yield losses due to shadow flicker shutdowns.
