Safe railway technology
We test, certify, and support railway technology throughout its entire life cycle—throughout Germany and in accordance with standards.
We support manufacturers, operators, transport companies and workshops throughout the entire life cycle: from the initial idea to safe operation. Our experts support you with the approval of vehicles and components, test maintenance systems and certify your processes in accordance with current European standards.
With the increasing digitalisation of railway technology, the number, complexity and safety requirements of electronic systems are growing. Mechanical components are increasingly being replaced by digital technology or controlled by it. We support you in the development and evaluation of such safety-related systems, compliant with IEC 61508 and the railway-specific CENELEC standards EN 50126, 50128 and 50129. Our approach considers the entire life cycle, from planning to operation.
Whether national or European approval according to EBO, BOStrab or TSI: we carry out safety-relevant tests on vehicles and subsystems. These include brake systems, control systems, wheelsets and traction systems. As an accredited body, we also offer ECM certification in accordance with EU Regulation 2019/779 and comprehensively test your maintenance organisation. We also assess and evaluate special vehicles and road-rail vehicles as well as railway infrastructure components.
Safety and control centres, which ensure uninterrupted and safe operation, are a central component of modern railway operating systems. TÜV NORD tests and certifies your control centre in accordance with DIN EN 50518, the standard for emergency call and service control centres recognised throughout Europe. We evaluate the structural, technical and organisational requirements and help you to set up your control centre in accordance with the standard or to further develop existing systems in a future-proof manner.
The DIN EN ISO/ASTM 52920 standard plays a crucial role in the railway industry as it raises the additive manufacturing of components to an industrial level. This standard provides a comprehensive framework for the manufacture of components used in trains and other railway vehicles and ensures that the novel manufacturing techniques for these components meet the high safety and performance requirements of the industry.
Our services are aimed at:
