Lorry driving licence classes C1, C1E, C, and CE

You are the capitan of the rural road and your captain's patents are the class C driving licences. The EU law has also lead to growing numbers of drivers signing up for driving schools: If you complete your lorry driving licence by September 10, 2009, you can work as a commercial driver without a basic qualification.

Class C1

This class allows people who have already turned 18 to drive a lorry between 3.5 and 7.5 t. In practice, it is primarily required as a preliminary stage for the class C1E.

Limitation:

Class C1 is generally valid until the holder is 50. Afterwards, it is only renewed for another 5 years after a positive health examination and vision test have been submitted.

Class C1E

One size larger: You can now drive lorries with more than 7.5 t. Combinations with trailers may weigh up to 12 t. However, this national special class is primarily used to convert the old class 3 driving licences and foreign passenger car driving licence classes. The time, effort, and costs for a C1E training programme are virtually identical with those of the class CE.

Class C

The junior class: This licence allows you to drive vehicles with a gross weight exceeding 3,500 kg for the fist time. The trailers are limited to 750 kg. In practice, the class C licence is mostly considered as a preliminary stage for the class CE.

Class C is generally only issued for 5 years; Afterwards, it is renewed for another 5 years after submitting a positive health examination and vision test.

When this licence is issued for the first time, you must submit a health examination and an examination by an ophthalmologist to verify your fitness. The class C driver's licence allows you to drive omnibuses without passengers in your home country, if the trips are only to test the technical condition of the vehicle

Class CE

This driver's licence replaces the former class 2. As with the class C driver's licence, the minimum age for non-commercial traffic is 18.
