Fire protection in railway vehicles

As with buildings, fire protection for railway vehicles also begins in the development phase, because even at the design stage of the vehicles and components, consideration must be given to preventing possible fire outbreaks and limiting the spread of fire in the event of a fire.

Thanks to the extensive experience of our fire protection experts, TÜV NORD supports operators, manufacturers and planners in the approval of products for use in rail vehicles.

TÜV NORD Systems GmbH & Co KG is listed with the certification body "SEECERT" at the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065 as an accredited certification body for products under the DAkkS procedure number: ZE-11074-01.

The certification body "SEECERT" is therefore authorised to carry out and certify product certification in accordance with the standard parts of DIN EN 45545 for fire protection equipment in rail vehicles.

In order for fire protection products to be certified in accordance with DIN EN 45545, they must undergo a corresponding certification process, which is structured as follows:

Surveillance:

• The certification-compliant product quality is regularly monitored by the certification body.

Evaluation and decision:

• The evaluation results are assessed and a decision is made as to whether a certificate will be issued as a result.

Evaluation:

• The product to be certified is measured against the normative requirements.

Planning:

• Which product is to be certified (e.g. electronic assembly).
• What should be certified according to (e.g. DIN EN 45545-2, DIN EN 45545-5).
• The certification and the evaluation are defined (evaluation plan).
• At the end of the certification process, you as the customer receive a corresponding certificate, which certifies conformity with the standard in accordance with DIN EN 45545-2.
