Needs-based, process-oriented quality management (QM) is essential for the product life cycle of safety-related systems and components in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511. It safeguards the product life cycle and optimises it from a business perspective. The optimal integration of IEC 61508 or IEC 61511 into an existing management system is an essential step in this process.

When safety management systems are implemented, all management activities required by IEC 61508 or IEC 61511 must be applied in new projects and in the overall operation of a technical system. If new projects are then to be defined, only a simple and concise project or QM plan will be required in future.
