Protective circuit calculation

An important consideration when looking at safety-related functions

An important aspect when considering safety-related functions is the determination of the residual fault probability (PFDavg/ PFH) of protective circuits, i.e. the evaluation of protective circuits with regard to their quantitative failure behaviour. The overall system, e.g. consisting of sensor, actuator and input unit, must achieve the required safety integrity of the safety functions. All components that contribute to the execution of a safety function for risk reduction must be considered. The SIL capability of each component must be sufficient for the SIL of the function.
