Hardware development of safety-related systems

The procedure for hardware development of safety-related systems is described in sector-specific industry standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 25119, IEC 61800-5-2 or in the generic meta-standard for functional safety IEC 61508-2. Hardware development is part of the safety life cycle of an electrical, electronic or programmable electronic system (E/E/PES). Hardware development is primarily concerned with implementing measures to prevent, recognise and control random hardware faults as well as measures to prevent and control systematic faults during development (safety integrity of safety functions).
