EMC Automotive: Compliance with legal requirements and quality feature

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is a key quality feature, especially for product manufacturers.  Testing the EMC of motor vehicles and installed electronic vehicle parts is required by law. Malfunctions, unsafe operating conditions or even accidents caused by electromagnetic influences on the on-board electronics or other safety systems (e.g. ABS, airbags, etc.) are avoided through consistent tests and inspections in the EMC laboratory.

In addition to tests for OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), we also offer E1 type approval, which we carry out as a recognised technical service for the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt / KBA). The UN-ECE R10 is an international regulation and describes the measurement procedures so that standardised conditions are defined for vehicles and their electronic components. This basically ensures that vehicles or vehicle systems neither interfere with other devices nor are themselves disturbed by electromagnetic radiation.
We carry out the necessary tests and support our customers in obtaining type approval (E1 mark) from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority.
As a general rule, the type approval procedure is required for all safety-relevant assemblies.

TÜV NORD offers all relevant EMC tests in the field of mobility solutions in its EMC laboratory, which is recognised by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) as a technical service, and thus supports our customers with their market entry.

Tests according to OEM specifications / supplier standards

In addition to legal requirements, many OEMs define their own test specifications that go beyond the legal requirements. For example, we can offer you the tests for components in accordance with TL81000 of the Volkswagen Group or GS 95002-2 of the BMW Group, which are binding for suppliers.

Our services are aimed at:

Manufacturers of

  • Automotive components
  • Electromobility (e.g. e-scooters, conversion kits)
  • Battery management systems for main and auxiliary batteries
  • High-voltage components / power electronics
  • Alarm systems, camera and security systems
  • Auxiliary lighting, advertising lighting
  • Fleet management systems
  • Electronic parking discs
  • Components for agricultural machinery
  • Construction and earthmoving machinery components
