amfori BEPI was developed by the international trade association amfori to support companies in improving their environmental performance along global supply chains. The standard assesses environmental aspects such as energy and resource consumption, emissions, waste management, chemical and water management.
While amfori BSCI focuses on social criteria, amfori BEPI offers an in-depth analysis of ecological processes. Together, the two initiatives form a comprehensive sustainability management system that combines ecological and social responsibility.
amfori BEPI is not an environmental certification, but a rating system for assessing environmental performance in global supply chains. The results are presented in the form of an audit rating from A (very good) to E (unacceptable). No certificate is issued due to the different assessment levels.
The amfori BEPI environmental monitoring rating shows the member's level of compliance with legal and non-legal local requirements in all environmental performance areas assessed. For comprehensive environmental monitoring, the amfori Sustainability Platform assigns a standardised rating from A to E, covering all environmental performance areas.
amfori BEPI covers eight different environmental performance areas: Environmental Management System, Energy and Climate, Air Emissions, Water and Wastewater, Waste, Biodiversity, Chemicals and Nuisance.
While amfori BSCI examines the social aspects of the supply chain, amfori BEPI focuses on environmental performance. Both standards originate from the standard setter amfori and complement each other to form a holistic sustainability management system.
The on-site audit depends on the number of employees, the complexity of the production processes and the number of Environmental Performance Areas to be audited. On average, an on-site audit takes around 1-2 days. Once the audit has been carried out, we send the report within ten working days.
