Information about the practical driving test

Before you receive your driving licence, you must complete a multi-stage practical training course. The duration of this training until the practical test depends on various factors:

  • Obtaining documents: The speedy provision of the necessary documents for the application is crucial.
  • Class attendance: Regular class attendance speeds up the learning process.
  • Prior knowledge: Existing driving licence classes or a moped test certificate can be helpful.
  • Comprehension and learning progress: Your ability to absorb and implement new information influences the duration of training.
  • Motivation: Your personal motivation plays an important role in your learning progress.

Your driving instructor will only allow you to take the practical driving test when you have achieved all the training objectives.

Step by step to your driver's license

The stages of practical driver training

The practical driving licence test comprises several training stages that prepare you for safe driving:

  • Basic level: In this phase, you get to know the vehicle better and learn how to operate it safely.
  • Advanced level: Here the focus is on environmentally friendly vehicle operation, the correct eye-tracking technique and anticipatory driving.
  • Performance level: You practise dealing with different traffic situations and learn how to act correctly and in good time.
  • Special training driving level: This level prepares you to drive safely at higher speeds on country roads, motorways and in the dark.
  • Maturity and test level: At the end of the training, you will undergo intensive test preparation.

Practical driving test: Preparation with the driving school

Before you take your practical driving test, you will undergo comprehensive preparation with your driving school. This includes:

  • Special training drives: Due to the high frequency of accidents on country roads, motorways and in the dark, special drives are required. These journeys prepare you for safe driving in challenging conditions.
  • Completion of the training stages: After successfully completing the basic, advanced and performance levels, the special training journeys begin. As soon as all training objectives have been achieved, you are ready for the test.
