What does electromobility mean?

Electromobility refers to travelling with vehicles that use an electric drive - this includes purely electric cars, but also plug-in hybrids and vehicles with fuel cells (hydrogen). The aim of e-mobility is to reduce emissions in transport, replace fossil fuels and make road transport more sustainable.

The focus is particularly on battery electric vehicles (BEV) - i.e. cars that run purely on electricity - and hydrogen vehicles that generate their electricity in a fuel cell.
