TÜV NORD GROUP

Complex challenges require strong partners

The core business of TÜV NORD comprises Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC).

In addition, other companies within the TÜV NORD GROUP – separate from TÜV NORD’s TIC activities – are active in the fields of renewable energy and supply infrastructure. Their portfolio includes a wide range of consulting and engineering services for sustainable energy projects: from feasibility studies, funding advisory and regulatory engineering to plant construction and the execution of EPC/EPCM projects.

All services for the renewable energy sector

Biogas production, construction, commissioning
Biomass / Biogas
Certified energy management according to ISO 50001
Compatibility with Natura 2000 areas
For specific projects, impacts on neighbouring Natura 2000 sites must be identified, described and assessed at an early stage.
Component Certification
Continued operation of wind turbines
Emission measurements
In accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG), operators of plants requiring authorization are obligated to have the type and scope of emissions from their facilities regularly assessed by an accredited measuring body, as notified under Section 29b BImSchG. Our experts conduct these emission measurements for a wide range of individual substances.
Energy Storage and Energy Storage Systems: Testing and Certification
TÜV NORD provides independent Technical Due Diligence, technical inspections, and standards-compliant certifications of energy storage systems – including large-scale battery storage and associated system components – to ensure stable grid integration, long-term operational reliability, and a sustainable energy future.
Environmental Compatibility
For specific projects, it must be ensured that the effects on the environment are identified, described and assessed comprehensively at an early stage. The type of project and its size or output determine whether it falls under the review obligations of the Environmental Impact Assessment Act (EIA Act).
Extended Design Lifetime
Geotechnical site assessment and soil investigation reports
Green heating
Grid Connection: Testing, Certification and Project Support for Energy Systems
Grid connection and component certification, measurement and testing services, as well as project support – TÜV NORD assists the energy sector with all aspects of grid integration for photovoltaic and wind power plants, wind farms, combined heat and power (CHP) units, and energy or battery storage systems.

Odour forecasts
Odor forecasts are essential for urban land-use planning and approval processes, as they calculate the frequency of odor perceptions in the vicinity of a facility. By utilizing odor-relevant data and weather information, they assess potential nuisances in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act.
Odour measurements
Odor measurements are used to determine the concentration of odorous substances in the air, often through olfactometry, which employs the human nose as a sensor. Samples are collected in odor-proof bags and analyzed in the laboratory to evaluate the intensity and frequency of odors, helping to prevent nuisances.
Overhead line assessments
Periodic inspection of biogas plants
Permit Management
The construction and operation or modification of a plant according to the Federal Immission Control Act requires a comprehensive permit management. Operators must go through complex application procedures and submit extensive application documents. Current legal framework conditions and the permit status must always be taken into account.
Photovoltaics
Project Certification
RED II
Risk assessment
Safety Culture Ladder
Shadow flicker forecasts
Site quality verification according to EEG 2017
Species Protection
The construction of new facilities may threaten biotopes and habitats, necessitating an official assessment in accordance with Section 44 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act. According to the law, projects are deemed inadmissible if they violate prohibitions without an exception. Furthermore, the requirements for species protected under the Habitats and the Birds Directives must be adhered to.
