CDCP® Training

In our two-day training course, you will learn the basics and advanced aspects of data center infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient operation.

What is CDCP® certification?

The CDCP® certification, "Certified Data Center Professional", is your ideal introduction and door opener to the fascinating world of data centres. This intensive two-day training course provides you with both basic and in-depth knowledge of data centre infrastructure.

Learn first-hand how power and cooling supply, fire protection, cabling and security concepts influence the resilience of high-availability data centres. The aim of the course is to provide you with valuable approaches for optimising your day-to-day data centre operations and to give you the knowledge that is crucial for new projects.

Become part of the global “CDCP”-community, which already counts thousands of graduates worldwide.

EPI and TÜV NORD: Your partners for excellence in the data centre

The training content was developed by the EPI Group from Singapore and is part of an entire training framework. The latest revision (R25) of the CDCP®-training was published in summer 2025. EPI is a global leader in data centre auditing, certification and training, operating successfully in over 60 countries. Its portfolio includes internationally recognised certifications for data centre design, construction and operation, as well as industry-leading training and qualification programmes for professionals. EPI is widely recognised for its expertise in implementing and auditing the ANSI/TIA-942 standard and for its contribution to global data centre excellence.

Since October 2025, the EPI Group has been part of the TÜV NORD GROUP, which allows us to offer this training first-hand at our premises "Am TÜV 1 in Essen". The training will be held in German, the material will be provided in English. You will also receive a detailed e-book in English. The training is conducted by EPI-approved experienced trainers who have many years of relevant industry experience.

Who are we targeting with CDCP®-training?

Above all, experts who plan, manage or modernise data centres and ensure stability and growth. Especially suitable for:

  • Managers in data centres and facility teams
  • Data centre experts who work with such environments on a daily basis
  • Engineers in the data centre environment
  • Manufacturers in the data centre environment
  • Newcomers - participation is also worthwhile for you to gain a foothold in the industry

There are no formal requirements that you need to fulfil in order to take part in the course. However, it is of course beneficial if you already have practical experience.

Training content

The course builds on the solid EPI training plan and packs everything important into two days - with lots of interaction, case studies and discussions from "real" life.

TÜV NORD cordially invites you to an (optional) dinner in the evening after the first day of the course to review the day in a relaxed atmosphere and to socialise with other training participants. Use this opportunity for valuable networking.

Testing and certification

In order to obtain CDCP® certification, a one-hour multiple-choice exam comprising 40 questions must be taken at the end of the second day.

Of the 40 questions, at least 27 must be answered correctly (min. 67.5 %).

No course materials may be used during the exam. We therefore recommend that you prepare specifically for the exam.

After successful completion of the exam, the certificate is valid for 3 years. It is recommended that you complete a re-certification before the expiry date. The re-certification also includes an examination.

The CDCP® course is accredited by EXIN, a global, independent, not-for-profit accreditation and assessment organisation. EXIN's mission is to improve the quality of the IT and data centre sector, the efficiency of IT and data centre professionals and IT users through the accreditation of course materials and independent testing and certification.

The certification is carried out and the certificate issued by EXIN.

Course objectives

  • Understand and evaluate data centres:
Explain different types of data centres, explain their impact on the core business and identify the key factors for availability (failures, redundancy, standards).

  • Apply standards & compliance:
Correctly apply international and national standards, consider industry guidelines and ensure compliance requirements for construction and operation.

  • Plan site & building:
Select suitable criteria for site selection and structural requirements (building, infrastructure) in order to realise a high-performance and highly available data centre.

  • Design lighting & emergency lighting:
Create plans for lighting and emergency lighting, with optimal positioning for task lighting, safety and energy efficiency.

  • Redundant & efficient power supply design:
Develop redundancy strategies, configure UPS systems, microgrids, transformers, batteries and optimise power distribution.

  • Master electromagnetic compatibility:
Identify sources of electromagnetic interference, evaluate shielding techniques and apply best practices to protect sensitive IT systems from interference and data loss.
  • Use modern cooling efficiently:
Utilise AI-powered cooling systems, implement containment strategies, liquid cooling and seasonal thermal energy storage to increase energy efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Future-proof cabling:
Set up structured cabling with redundancy, apply TIA-942 compliant topologies for stable, scalable and future-orientated network infrastructure.

  • Implement fire protection & extinguishing systems:
Install extinguishing systems (gas, water, etc.), fire detection, safety signage and comply with regulations to optimally protect people and IT equipment.

  • Ensure physical & operational security:
Develop access controls, physical security measures, monitoring systems and security protocols to deter threats.

  • Operate monitoring & management systems:
Set up BMS (building management system), DCIM, EMS (energy management system), leak detection and alarming for continuous monitoring, proactive fault detection and rapid problem resolution.
