Certification of Organization in the Area of Sustainable Biomass

Biogas facility for power generation and energy recovery from renewable sources.

Sustainable Biomass

Biomass fuels, especially biofuels, are increasingly in demand worldwide. At the same time, natural landscapes and the biological diversity of the ecosphere should be preserved. Companies are therefore called upon to cultivate and process biomass sustainably for the energy sector. For this reason, the European Union has adopted Directive 2009/28/EC: since 2011, economic operators using biofuels and liquid biofuels have been able to prove that they are produced in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way.

Our target group of Sustainable Biomass certification

The certifications are addressed to all economic participants who are considered as interfaces or transporters within the meaning of the regulations mentioned - from the collection of biomass at home or abroad via trade and logistics to final processing.

Your benefits of Sustainable Biomass certification

The certificate for sustainable biomass is an effective and trustworthy instrument in order to:

  • ensure compliance with the requirements of EU Directive 2009/28 and the relevant German regulations
  • continue to market biomass or its end products as biofuel in the EU
  • gain competitive advantage through the provisions of the Renewable Energies Act

Recognition of RFNBO Certification

TÜV NORD CERT has been recognized by the Federal Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt) as a certification body for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO). We can now assist companies with the certification of their green hydrogen according to the ISCC EU and REDcert EU standards.

Green hydrogen plays a crucial role in the energy transition. However, its full potential can only be realized if its origin and sustainability are reliably demonstrated. This is where verified standards and recognized certification bodies come into play. Recognition by the Federal Environment Agency is essential in Germany to ensure the credibility and quality of the certification.
