Climate Change

Climate Change. Made safe.

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Global warming is transforming the environment, society and the economy. Extreme weather events, rising sea levels and resource scarcity make it clear: we must act. TÜV NORD supports companies in actively contributing to climate protection – with independent inspections, precise measurements and reliable certifications.

ENERGY TECHNOLOGY – SAFE & SUSTAINABLE

Achieving climate neutrality through the energy transition with TÜV NORD

The decarbonisation of industry and the restructuring of our energy system are central elements in meeting climate targets. The energy transition represents the phase-out of fossil fuels and the expansion of renewable energy sources such as wind power, photovoltaics, biogas and hydrogen. At the same time, climate protection laws require reductions in CO₂ emissions and the achievement of climate neutrality.

Another key lies in the integration of new technologies – such as energy storage systems, carbon capture and storage (CCS), digitally networked energy management solutions or innovative reactor technologies. These enable a safe, flexible and sustainable energy supply for the future.

TÜV NORD is your experienced partner for technical inspections, environmental measurements and certifications in the field of climate protection. We support you along the entire value chain – with standard-compliant documentation, safety-relevant testing and quality-assured measurement technology.

News on Climate Change

Climate Change: All services

Baseline Reports and Soil Analyses
In order to ensure the prevention of significant pollution of soil and groundwater, a baseline report, continuous monitoring and the obligation to return to the baseline might be necessary.
Climate Protection Projects
Compatibility with Natura 2000 areas
For specific projects, impacts on neighbouring Natura 2000 sites must be identified, described and assessed at an early stage.
EN 50600 (DC)
EU-ETS
Energy Storage and Energy Storage Systems: Testing and Certification
TÜV NORD provides independent Technical Due Diligence, technical inspections, and standards-compliant certifications of energy storage systems – including large-scale battery storage and associated system components – to ensure stable grid integration, long-term operational reliability, and a sustainable energy future.
Environmental Compatibility
For specific projects, it must be ensured that the effects on the environment are identified, described and assessed comprehensively at an early stage. The type of project and its size or output determine whether it falls under the review obligations of the Environmental Impact Assessment Act (EIA Act).
GOTS
Gold Standard®
Grid Connection: Testing, Certification and Project Support for Energy Systems
Grid connection and component certification, measurement and testing services, as well as project support – TÜV NORD assists the energy sector with all aspects of grid integration for photovoltaic and wind power plants, wind farms, combined heat and power (CHP) units, and energy or battery storage systems.
Industrial noise
As an accredited measuring body, TÜV NORD Umweltschutz offers reliable noise measurements and noise forecasts on industrial plants. Trust our long-standing experience to reliably meet legal noise protection requirements.
Reporting
A sustainability report allows an organisation to communicate transparently about its environmental impact, social responsibilities, and governance practices. This builds trust among customers, investors, and other stakeholders, as they can clearly see how the organisation pursues its sustainability objectives.
Species Protection
The construction of new facilities may threaten biotopes and habitats, necessitating an official assessment in accordance with Section 44 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act. According to the law, projects are deemed inadmissible if they violate prohibitions without an exception. Furthermore, the requirements for species protected under the Habitats and the Birds Directives must be adhered to.
Supply chains & due diligence obligations
Since 2023, the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act has required organisations to protect human rights and environmental standards throughout their entire supply chain. Through risk management, preventive measures, and grievance mechanisms, violations can be identified and prevented at an early stage. Annual reporting ensures transparency
Sustainability strategy & management
Organisations must integrate sustainability into their strategies and processes for the long term. This requires clear structures with defined responsibilities, measurable objectives, and actionable plans. A sustainable management system facilitates the coordination of initiatives, reduces risks, identifies opportunities early, and builds stakeholder trust through transparent communication.
