The course of action developing Hardware of safety directed systems is described in the sector specific industry related standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 25119, IEC 61800-5-2 or in the generic standard for functional safety IEC 61508-2. The hardware development is hereby part of the safety life cycle of electric, electronical or programmable electronic systems (E/E/PES). The primary task during hardware development is to implement measures to avoid, recognise and manage random hardware failures as well as measures to avoid and manage systematic failures during the development (safety integrity of the safety functions).
