Periodic Technical Inspection (PTI)

Regular checking of vehicle safety is a must

People in Germany say: "My car is due for its TÜV inspection".  The law demands: "All registered vehicles must be periodically tested for safety on the road and adherence to traffic safety regulations." And common sense tells us: "I can only take the wheel with confidence if I know that my car is safe." But they are all talking about the same thing: mandatory periodic technical inspection.

Don't leave your safety to chance - leave it to an expert

Only officially recognized experts, test technicians or engineers may perform the periodic technical inspections required by law. This is where you can trust the expertise and experience of TÜV NORD Mobility. Make an appointment with your TÜV STATION - preferably well in advance.

Our independent experts check the following:

  • Brakes Wheels/tyres
  • Frame/body
  • Exhaust system
  • Steering
  • Lighting/electrical systems
  • Windows/mirrors
  • Accessories
  • Pedals, seats, seat belts
  • Electronic safety systems

Inspections are performed without any disassembly.

The inspection result: a full explanation is part of the service

Our experts explain in detail the results of the inspection and discuss any possible risks and dangers with you.

You will also receive a written inspection report. Please keep this until the next periodic inspection.

What do I do if a re-inspection is necessary?

Please bring your vehicle for re-inspection within one month. Otherwise, the testers will have to perform a full inspection all over again. Please correct even minor defects before re-inspection. Only then can we issue a new vehicle inspection sticker!

Can I postpone the date for the general inspection?

Your safety is at stake. You should always bring your vehicle for inspection in good time. The due date for the inspection can be found on the round inspection sticker on the rear license plate. Further answers to frequently asked questions about the general inspection can be found here.

Periodic Technical Inspection (PTI) at TÜV NORD

On 1 July 2012, the TÜV inspection, as the periodic technical inspection is usually known, was brought up to date. Testing of safety-relevant vehicle electronics is now carried out using the diagnostic interface, there is a standardised and more precise description of defects and there is no backdating for vehicles which are presented for testing late. TÜV NORD has produced a short film showing the new periodic technical inspection.
