This verification is aimed at companies, municipalities, authorities, or associations that actively address climate change and its consequences, work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and wish to externally document this sense of responsibility.
This verification is intended for manufacturers of all types of products who:

- aim to appeal to environmentally conscious customers.
To enable consumers to make informed choices for climate protection in their daily lives, a corresponding range of verified products on the manufacturer’s side is essential.
This verification is aimed at gas suppliers who wish to make a voluntary financial contribution to climate change mitigation for their fossil fuels and differentiate their product in the marketplace.
The provision of services can also result in a significant carbon footprint. This can be attributed to various factors, such as energy consumption in offices, the use of IT infrastructure, employee mobility, the provision of materials, and waste disposal. This applies to both physical and non-physical services.
Hosting an event results in a carbon footprint, as various activities and processes — such as the production of brochures, flyers, and handouts, participant travel, energy consumption, catering, and waste disposal — can generate greenhouse gas emissions.

Companies are increasingly communicating specific environmental targets, such as reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by a defined target year. Future environmental performance claims must be transparent, substantiated, and supported by a realistic implementation plan.
Through the verification of future environmental performance claims in accordance with the TÜV NORD standard TN-CC 020, TÜV NORD CERT independently assesses whether both the claim made by the company and the underlying implementation plan meet the defined requirements.

For future environmental performance claims relating to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the CO₂e footprint of the underlying base year is generally also reviewed. If a suitable external verification of the base year is already available, it may be recognized, provided it meets the requirements of TN-CC 020.
For future environmental performance claims that do not relate to greenhouse gas emissions, verification of a CO₂e footprint is not required.
Independent verification by TÜV NORD CERT enhances the transparency and credibility of your future environmental performance claims. It helps companies demonstrate the reliability and robustness of their environmental targets and implementation plans to customers, business partners, and other stakeholders, while also identifying potential weaknesses at an early stage.
In addition, the verification can support companies in aligning their environmental communications with increasing regulatory requirements for environmental claims.
Upon successful completion of the verification process, you will receive a certificate issued by TÜV NORD CERT documenting the verified future environmental performance claim and the underlying subject of verification.
The certificate provides independent confirmation of the verification outcome. However, it is not intended to be used as an environmental label or sustainability seal.
TÜV NORD CERT carries out the verification based on the aforementioned standard. A prerequisite is the preparation of a carbon footprint and voluntary financial support for climate protection projects in accordance with the requirements of standard TN-CC 020. A successful verification is confirmed by a certificate and a conformity mark.
As an independent testing centre, we are not permitted by law to verify our own performance. The calculation in the run-up to verification must be carried out by the customer or by a consultancy firm commissioned by the customer.

A CO₂ certificate is a tradable instrument that grants companies the right to emit a specific amount of CO₂ or CO₂ equivalents. It plays a central role in climate protection strategies aimed at limiting and reducing emissions. In addition to mandatory systems, there are also voluntary markets where companies can purchase certificates to emphasize their commitment.
After successful verification, you will receive our TÜV NORD certificate and the corresponding test mark. The certificate is usually valid for 12 months.
Voluntary financial climate contribution is provided through the purchase of CO₂ certificates in accordance with our in-house standard TN-CC 020.
