We build trust in the quality, functionality and availability of technical plants and systems.
Technical installations and systems must operate safely, in compliance with applicable requirements, and economically.
TÜV NORD supports the entire lifecycle – from planning and assessment through commissioning and operation to modernisation and decommissioning. With independent inspections and assessments, we support industry, energy supply and critical infrastructure.

Technical installations are facing increasingly demanding requirements. Operators, planners, contractors and investors must ensure safety, quality, availability, energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness in equal measure. At the same time, the energy transition, digitalisation, the expansion of critical infrastructure, and new technologies such as hydrogen are increasing the complexity of planning, construction and operation.
TÜV NORD provides support through independent testing, assessments and expert evaluations. We analyse technical concepts, design documentation, verification documents and other relevant documentation with regard to plausibility, traceability and technical robustness. Our focus is on project-specific issues and the individual requirements of our customers. In this way, we provide a reliable basis for well-founded decisions throughout the entire plant life cycle – from planning and design through commissioning and operation to modernisation and decommissioning.
TÜV NORD EnSys combines many years of expertise in plant engineering, cooling, air-conditioning and ventilation technology, stationary large engines, emergency power supply systems and hydrogen infrastructure with independent, requirements-based and customised assessments. Our fields of application range from industrial and process plants to energy supply systems, data centres and other process engineering facilities.
For more detailed information on safety-related topics, please also refer to our Plant Safety section.
However, the intended operation of a plant often involves additional, application-specific requirements – such as technical availability, product quality, specific operating modes or defined event scenarios.
TÜV NORD assesses these requirements independently, transparently and on a project-specific basis.
TÜV NORD supports operators, planners, contractors and investors with independent assessments, testing and expert evaluations throughout all project phases – from the initial concept through to modernisation and decommissioning.
At a data centre, frost damage to adiabatic dry coolers resulted in reduced heat dissipation, requiring servers to be temporarily shut down. TÜV NORD analysed the causes, identified factors relating to design, installation and operation, and supported the optimisation of the cooling system to help prevent similar damage in the future.
For an international infrastructure project, stringent requirements had to be met regarding voltage and frequency stability as well as system behaviour during sudden load changes. TÜV NORD reviewed the factory acceptance test programme and supported the acceptance testing at the manufacturer's facility. This enabled independent confirmation that the project-specific requirements had been met.
To further develop a cooling supply system with regard to high availability, TÜV NORD assessed various options as part of a concept study. The assessment was based on defined technical and operational requirements, providing a reliable basis for selecting the most suitable solution.
For a shore power supply installation, requirements relating to indoor air quality, automated monitoring, local climatic conditions, operation in a coastal environment, and the projected load cases had to be taken into account. TÜV NORD assessed the suitability of the planned ventilation and air conditioning concept and evaluated the consistency between the environmental conditions and the technical requirements of the components used.
An existing natural gas pipeline is being converted for the transport and storage of 100% hydrogen. TÜV NORD supports the commissioning process and assesses whether the commissioning programme takes into account all relevant availability requirements and operating scenarios. This helps ensure safe and reliable operation.

Industrial and process plants require reliable interaction between components, systems and operational processes. TÜV NORD assesses technical concepts, analyses risks and supports the assurance of availability and quality. Further information on industry-specific requirements can be found in the Chemical and Process Industry section.

A reliable energy supply is the basis for the safe and continuous operation of technical installations. TÜV NORD provides support throughout the plant life cycle with independent assessments, testing and technical verification. Further services relating to grid connection, testing and certification of energy installations can be found on our service page.

The development of a hydrogen economy places new demands on the planning, documentation and operation of facilities. TÜV NORD provides support through independent assessments, tests and inspections across the entire hydrogen value chain. Further information on testing, safety requirements and certification can be found in the Hydrogen section.

TÜV NORD assesses, tests and supports technical plants and systems throughout their entire life cycle – from planning and design through commissioning and operation to modernisation and decommissioning.
Our services cover, among others, energy supply systems, emergency and standby power systems, air-conditioning, ventilation and cooling systems, data centres, hydrogen infrastructure, as well as industrial and process plants.
Our customers include operators, planners, contractors and investors, as well as energy suppliers, permitting authorities and regulatory bodies.
Independent assessments provide transparency, support well-founded decision-making and help identify risks at an early stage, increase availability and ensure the long-term quality of technical installations.
TÜV NORD supports projects from project development and planning through technical assessments and verification to commissioning, operation, modernisation and decommissioning.
TÜV NORD does not undertake the planning or design of technical installations. As an independent partner, we assess technical concepts, verification documentation and systems objectively and transparently, with a focus on project-specific issues and individual requirements.
