Whether wheels or tyres, brakes or other vehicle components – these parts play a vital role in road safety. To ensure they function reliably even under high loads, we test their strength, service life and safety under realistic conditions in our own test laboratories or at our partners’ facilities. 

As a technical service provider, we support manufacturers and developers with type testing and beyond – in compliance with regulations, with a practical focus and on an individual basis.

An overview of our key test areas

In our accredited laboratories, we offer a wide range of tests carried out on our own test equipment. In addition, we collaborate with partner laboratories to expand this portfolio:

Inspections of wheels, tyres and chassis components

Our test laboratory is equipped with a wide range of testing facilities to test your components and systems in accordance with legal requirements and manufacturers’ specifications.

These tests are based on national and international testing regulations such as the StVZO, EC or ECE, as well as manufacturers’ specifications and testing guidelines.

In addition to testing individual components (wheels and tyres), tests on the wheel assembly, including the chassis and braking system, can be carried out under realistic conditions on our driving dynamics half-axle test bench (FDHAP).

 

Testing of brake components on flywheel test benches

To test your brake components in accordance with statutory requirements or industry standards, the Brake Systems Test Laboratory operates a total of four flywheel test benches.

These test benches can be used to test brake components ranging from motorcycles and passenger cars to commercial vehicles and even trains. In some cases, this can be carried out under controlled environmental conditions.

In addition, it is possible to test brakes for industrial applications and to determine their noise behaviour.

 

Component strength tests on fasteners (static and dynamic)

Dynamic and static tests are carried out to assess the strength of connecting devices. These tests are based on national and international legal requirements. Tests in accordance with technical regulations and similar standards are also possible.

Our TÜV NORD experts carry out these tests on clamping stations in servo-hydraulic test rigs.

 

Type-approval tests in accordance with national and international regulatory requirements

The IFM team offers testing services for a wide range of other applications that must be carried out as part of the type-approval process.

In addition to testing individual components and systems, road tests are carried out to assess vehicle modifications. These include, for example, 

  • modifications to chassis,
  • the retrofitting of wheel-tyre combinations, or
  • type testing of aftermarket brake components, and much more.
