Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU

Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU and EN 61010-1

The Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU (LVD) is one of the oldest single market directives. It includes both a conformity assessment procedure used for electrical equipment before it is placed on the market and essential health and safety requirements that such equipment must meet, either directly or through harmonized standards. Electrical equipment as defined by the Low Voltage Directive includes equipment for use at a nominal voltage between 50 -1000 volts for AC and between 75 -1500 volts for DC.

The ever faster technical progress also leads to an increasing number and density of electrical devices. In order to protect people and property, the EN 61010-1 standard, for example, defines a high quality standard for products in the fields of testing, measuring, control and laboratory equipment as well as their accessories. The aim is to prevent hazards to users and their surroundings, for example due to electric shock or fire.

Testing according to EN 61010-1

Target groups:

The test addresses manufacturers and importers of electrical measuring, test, control and laboratory equipment as well as their accessories. The standard is therefore not only applicable to classical laboratory equipment, but also to equipment used in industrial production process technology.

Prerequisites:

In addition to the device to be tested, its operating instructions, circuit diagrams, parts list, material data and - depending on the product - other relevant documents must also be provided.

Advantages of testing according to the Low Voltage Directive

For customers, safety, suitability for use and ergonomics are the decisive criteria when purchasing a product - because only safe and easy-to-use devices speed up work processes, prevent accidents at work, prevent production downtimes and relieve the user. With a successful test by TÜV NORD, manufacturers and importers have independent proof that their equipment meets high quality standards and secure access to the European market with the legally required proof.
